Doctora en Biología por la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (España) en 1998. Realizó varias estancias postdoctorales, incluyendo el Instituto Cajal-CSIC, Madrid (España), el Reed Neurology Center, UCLA, Los Ángeles (EE. UU.) y el Instituto Pasteur, París (Francia). Aporta más de 20 años de experiencia en investigación en neurociencias en el campo de la enfermedad de Alzheimer y otras enfermedades neurodegenerativas. En 2005 se incorporó al Instituto de Investigación del Hospital 12 de Octubre, Madrid (España) como investigador Miguel Servet y en 2021 al Instituto de Salud Carlos III como Científico Titular. Dirige del laboratorio de Neurobiología del Alzheimer también perteneciente al Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Enfermedades Neurodegenerativas (CIBERNED).

El grupo de Neurobiología del Alzheimer se formó en 2021 y centra su actividad científica en la necesidad de potenciar la investigación traslacional en el campo de enfermedad de con especial atención al estudio sobre biomarcadores de la enfermedad y factores de riesgo modificables. Está integrado en el CIBER de Enfermedades Neurodegenerativas (CB06/05/0022).
